| F.A.Q. "How To" F.A.Q.
 | F.A.Q. | | | | | General Site Q&A | Q: Another Longhorn Site? Really? A: Yes. ANOTHER Longhorn site, but not JUST another Longhorn site. Take some time. Look around. You'll see why there was room out there for another. Kind of a MySpace (without the suck) meets Facebook meets Rivals msg board. Spend a couple hours of actual online time, and you'll understand why we consider this the ultimate online community. Not a Longhorn? No problem. Chances are we'll be rolling this out for your school in the near future - might as well register an account, now. | Q: Why is the site adults, only (17+)? A: For several reasons. The first should be obvious. This is a Texas Longhorn Fan Website. Mainly for college students, alumni and fans of college sports/activities. As such, this cuts down on the amount of moderation that must be done by the site staff.
Grouchy Disclaimer: Although we are an adults-only (17 years older and up) website, we strongly encourage members to keep things relatively clean and friendly. Remember, just as with a real sports bar, we have bouncers and reserve the right to throw you out if necessary. So, don't find yourself on the sidelines because you acted like a jerk. | Q: You don't think that kids younger than the required age will register accounts? A: We know that it is inevitable, since we can't police/verify this information. But, once they register an account, if any portion of their profile is untrue (particularly their age) we are no longer liable (less anyway) for any material they, or their parents, may find to be offensive. Additionally, if youngsters aren't even taking the time to read this FAQ, or at least clever enough to make an attempt at faking their age a little better, they will be banned without warning. | Q: Is Longhorn Nation Free? Then what are sponsors? Why don't you just run ads? A: It is entirely Free. Most of the features and functions that set this community apart from practically anything else out there -Yes, including MySpace- are available to every user, at no cost - those who wish to support the site monetarily, will enhance those benefits, add a few more, and unlock other portions of the site/board. Ads do help a little bit, but not nearly as much as the generous donations of our members. And sponsors get to enjoy the site, ad-free. ($5/mo) | Q: How come you don't allow the use of signatures, in posts? A: There's no need for them on our forum. On other sites, we understand that people use them as a means to express themselves: Give others a tiny glimpse into their world, or convey a thought or idea that they hold dear (or just think is amusing). You have an avatar to the left of each post for that purpose, which you can change whenever you see fit. If anyone else wants to know more, they can click on that avatar to check your image library, view your profile, read your journal entries, or add you to their friends and watch lists. | Q: Yeah, but... A: Give it up. It ain't gonna happen. Stop asking. | Q: Why would I spend time on here, if I'm not a Longhorn? A: Well, for several reasons. First: although, this website has a nice little burnt orange tint with a sweet ass Longhorn on it, outside of the sports forums (which are actually open for any discussions) there are all kinds of things going on that don't necessarily relate to the University or even Austin. | Q: That's only one reason. A: If you would zip it, and stop interrupting me... | Q: Sorry. A: As the site grows, we don't really have plans to focus on one thing in particular. We started it during football season and we're big Texas fans, so it centers mainly on that right now. Who knows what the future will bring? Since the site is community based it could evolve into a more encompassing sports site, a UT alumni site or a "college life" site. All depends on what the community wants. Also, be sure to check out our "NON-Horn Nation" Forum. | Q: Excuse me. A: WHAT IS IT? | Q: This is getting a little long. Could you wrap it up? A: AS I was saying... This is pretty far out there, but as you can see the opportunities are limitless, and we're very positive about the future of our "Community Forum Sites". (We need a new, catchier name though) | Q: Finally! That's all very interesting, but you are a blowhard. A: I hate you.
And please frame your insults in the form of a question. | Q: OOH! One more... It sure seems like there are more people online than the "X Users Online" page reflects A: LonghornNation has an inactivity timeout set at 10 minutes. Although, you actually remain logged in until you physically log out, close all browsers, or turn off the computer, your account will fluctuate from active ('Online') to inactive status. This is done for several reasons, one of which is so the software can record 'true' site usage by each member, for tracking metrics. This number is generally between 2% & 5% of registered users - 'Lurkers' not included (those who browse the site without an account) |
